I've started selling some of my toys & collectibles. As both an eBay Partner and Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. |
The classic game of Cootie made by Schaper. Put your bug together by rolling the correct numbers on the die. The first two versions in my collection, both catalog no. 200 dated 1949, are complete though it took me a few different purchases to get them that way. The top one is a bit older as the Patent is still pending. Later versions include the reconfigured box which attempts to hold the parts in place even if turned upside down. Rumored to be from the mid 1960s, I have no idea when this new box design came into being or which of the two box arts came first as this is still catalog number 200 and dated 1949.
Also available as the Deluxe 6 set, catalog no. 306 dated 1949, which uses the same parts to make six Cooties and comes in a vastly larger box. Cootie House is a game that is rumored to be a Sears exclusive. Set up to make eight bugs including the rare tan and orange color, once the bug is completed you need to move it around a plastic game board. Catalog number 400 dated 1966,
Lastly are the Giant Cootie games which are shown with an original Cootie for size comparison. First copy is a newer 1977 version, catalog number 450, that only includes two Cooties (which can be used as banks!). The second set is a vintage Giant Cootie that contains four bugs and is catalog number 1000, probably from the 1950s. I've stacked four different size vintage Cootie games so you can see the size comparison.
Instructions for regular games are the same and are shown below along with the Cootie House instructs. Very cool game from a company that made many, many cool games.
Other games in my collection where the object is to collect parts and build something: Thing Ding by Schaper and Tiger Island by Ideal.
