Ever since I purchased the 1972 Chevallero motorhome I've been looking for a "dinghy" vehicle to pull behind it. Since the coach is so old I don't think it would do well pulling a car so I've been looking for a cheap motorcycle to trailer.
Another option was to get a scooter, moped, or even a motorized bicycle to carry right on the bumper. At a garage sale I happened upon a bumper mounted motorycycle carrier and bought it immediately. Just before I left the sale the seller asked if I'd be interested in the "moped" that went with the carrier. The moped turned out to be this 1981 Honda C70 Passport scooter with 2075 miles on it. After the briefest of internet research on C70s I bought the bike from the seller (the original owner) on April 1, 2006. I'm thinking of naming her Betsy.
Like with every vintage thing I buy the scooter will need work. It hasn't been started in years (decades?) so I will need to clean out the old gas, derust the gas tank, rebuild or replace the carb, replace the battery and the dry-rotted tires and tubes at a minimum. I likely paid too much but am pleased with the shape of the bike and look forward to getting it operational. There are lots of resources on the web that will help me including a Honda C70 Yahoo Group.
